DISABLED TEEN GETS HELP FROM FM SANTA

A young woman with cerebral palsy had a chance encounter with a flea market Santa that could change her life forever.

Barbie Brockmeyer has lived with cerebral palsy her whole life. She says the physical challenges of getting around are great, but the emotional challenges are even more difficult.

"People treat me nicely, but they don't really want to get to know me. They don't want to do anything extra," said Brockmeyer.

Brockmeyer wants a service dog to help her get around. A chance encounter with a Santa at the Treasure Isle Flea Market in Monroe may help her get her wish.

"I asked her what she wanted for Christmas and she told me ' a service dog,' and I told her, 'I believe you'll get it,'" said Randy Lewis, who dresses as Santa at the flea market.

Lewis has started to raise the $13,000 needed to get Brockmeyer her service dog.

Brockmeyer said she's hopeful.

"It would help me open doors, push buttons, turn on light switches, retrieve things if I drop something," she said. "It would be my buddy  my best friend."

Some Butler County businesses are also stepping up to help Brockmeyer. Mention her story at Bailey's Cheesecakes and 15 percent of the sale will go toward the service dog.
